South East Vet Referrals

Oncology

Specialist cancer care, planned around what matters to each pet and their family.

Our oncology service is led by Dr Sarah Mason, an RCVS Specialist in Oncology and a European Specialist in veterinary oncology and radiation oncology. We accept referrals for dogs and cats with suspected or confirmed cancer, from first diagnosis through to treatment and ongoing care.

Every case starts with a conversation. Cancer has many types and many treatment options, and the right plan depends as much on the family’s goals as on the diagnosis. Sarah takes the time to talk those through properly, then works with your own vet so care stays as close to home as possible.

How the service works

A cancer diagnosis needs time and careful explanation. Our model gives it that time, and avoids families travelling before they know what the options are.

1. A video consultation first

Sarah meets the owner by video to understand the case and the family’s aims, and explains what the disease may mean and the realistic options. A written summary follows, covering the findings, options, costs and next steps.

2. Staging and diagnostics

Where it will change the plan, we arrange the right imaging and sampling at our Sevenoaks hospital, including CT and ultrasound, with Sarah overseeing.

3. Treatment and follow-up

Treatment is given on site with Sarah or under her guidance with our team. When the plan allows, care moves back to your own practice, with Sarah on hand.

Cancers we see

We see a wide range of cancers in dogs and cats, including:

Lymphoma
Often more treatable than people expect, with a strong focus on quality of life during chemotherapy

Mast cell tumours and soft tissue sarcomas
Where early investigation can make a real difference

Anal sac tumours
An area of particular experience for Sarah, and often more treatable than assumed

Melanoma
Including follow-on treatment with the melanoma vaccine

Nasal tumours
Working alongside our medicine service

Other solid and blood cancers
Including neuroendocrine tumours. If you are unsure, ask us.

Treatments we offer

Chemotherapy
Given safely on site, aimed at slowing the disease and maintaining a good quality of life

Immunotherapy, including the melanoma vaccine
Delivered with a needle-free injector system

Staging and treatment planning
So every decision is based on how far the disease has gone

Advice on radiotherapy
As a specialist in radiation oncology, Sarah can tell early whether radiotherapy belongs in the plan, and arrange it at the right centre if it does

Palliative and quality-of-life care
Including the option to choose not to treat, with support to make that decision well

Why Choose Us?

Double specialist expertise

Sarah is an RCVS Specialist in Oncology and a European Specialist in oncology and radiation oncology, and was awarded a Fellowship of the RCVS in 2024 for meritorious contributions to clinical practice.

Goal-oriented care

Some families want to do everything possible, others want to understand their options and choose comfort. Both are right, and both get the same time and care.

Working closely with our medicine service

Sarah works alongside Dr Vicky Neale, so cases that start as a medicine question move smoothly to oncology.

Independent and transparent

As an independent referral practice, we prioritise accessibility, fair pricing and open communication with referring vets and owners.
